KEN FORRESTER VINEYARDS
Winter News

We relish in an extraordinary first half of 2016 and take pride in sharing the latest awards received.

The Gypsy 2012 was awarded a Gold Medal at the Gilbert & Gaillard International Competition with 93 points, Double Platinum at National Wine Challenge/Top 100 SA Wines 2016, as well as 91 points at the Winemag.co.za Laurium Capital Signature Red Blend Report. The 2012 vintage was released in July and is now available from our cellar door and at selected stockists. Gilbert & Gaillard described this Grenache based wine as follows: Beautiful fruit purity, a combination of wild black & red berries, in an ageworthy wine that is still quite dense & tannic but velvety smooth, with dark spice notes of cinnamon & nutmeg hinting at great complexity to come, the oak already well integrated.

Also part of the Icon range, The FMC 2014 was rated 95 points by Gilbert & Gaillard International Competition. This wine is a consistent achiever in competitions globally. Hand selected Chenin Blanc, primarily from low yielding, old bush vines planted in 1974. Recommended to serve with spiced dishes, even mild seafood or curries.

The secret is out, with the Dirty Little Secret One on everyone’s lips. Acclaimed wine judge and journalist Jamie Goode sketched the picture: Lovely ripe, supple, aromatic Chenin showing tangerines, herbs, lemons and fine spices, as well as some intriguing white flower notes. There are flavours of white peaches and ripe apples, and this wine, with just 12.5% alcohol, shows lovely detail and finesse. There is concentration here, but also detail. There are also floral aromatics that you wouldn’t normally associate with Chenin, which may come from the brief skin and stem contact before pressing. It’s a really lovely wine. 94/100

As you might know we practice sustainable, organic viticulture, we make our own compost, we grow winter cover crops between the dormant vines, we use ducks to control snails and insects and we manage yields according to the potential of the soils and the vines, we do not believe that stress is a good practice in the vineyards or in life!

Your passion towards our brand is cherished, thank you for sharing.

Cheers!
