Why does the band "Earth, Wind and Fire" keep springing
to mind. Maybe it's because the natural
force of these elements have been clearly
visible this summer. Talk about global
warming – surely we have to be believers by
now. We have always done our bit to attempt
to neutralise our carbon footprint and the
recent COP21 talks in Paris have succeeded
in a plan to slow down the effects of this
phenomenon.
Although the heat waves continue unabated,
the Western Cape has been better off than
most of the country. The vineyards are
healthy, but the yield will be down which
will result in greater intensity of flavour.
We recorded the earliest start of harvest
ever and everything promises to ripen at the
same time. It will be a frenetic harvest,
but we are confident we can work our magic.

Awards
Apart from all the awards garnered for our wines
last year, our attention to sustainability was also
rewarded.
At the Great Wine Capitals Global Network gala dinner held in Spain last year, where the Best of wine Tourism awards were
handed out, we were announced the South
African winners in the Sustainable
Wine Tourism Practices category.
We were also a winner at the Getaway Nedbank
Green wine awards for our sustainability
projects. |

On the weekend of the 19th of March we are hosting
an "Amazing Race" with an Easter Theme. Wine related
challenges will be completed by the various teams
entering the Race and the winners will receive
prizes. Contact René at Villiera on 021 865 2002 or rene@villiera.com for entry details.
Wednesday Soiree
To step up social activity at Villiera and
provide an additional opportunity to taste and
purchase wine, we are introducing a monthly event on
the last Wednesday of each month as from April.
These Wednesday Soirees will take place from 17h00
to 20h00 and the format will be adapted to the
season. A R50 entry fee will cover a tasting of
featured wines and light entertainment. Interesting
food will be available for sale at food stalls.
There will be a limit to the number of people we can
accommodate and we suggest booking with René.
Further details will be available on our website. |

Entrance
The R101 that runs past our entrance is in the
process of being upgraded and a stop/go has been
installed but only after our entrance. Turning in at
Villiera looks as though it would be complicated but
it has not been affected. We apologise for the
inconvenience and trust that the road works will not
put you off visiting Villiera.

Domaine Grier
Our first 2015 wines from Domaine Grier have arrived
in South Africa. It was a wonderful vintage in the
South of France and you should enjoy the refreshing
Rosé and the zesty Chardonnay that are now
available.
