DEAR FRIENDS

Morgenster olive oil is excelling in South African and international competitions. Locally in the SA Olive and Absa Top 10 awards we received gold, and I will let Nico, our Olive Production Manager, tell you about that.

We also got a gold medal at the important Sol d'Oro Southern Hemisphere competition held in mid-September in Osaka, Japan. Morgenster is the only South African producer to win gold, taking the delicate fruity category. Gold for the medium fruity and intense fruity categories went to estates in Chile and Argentina. Read about it here.

Sol d'Oro offered winners of the Sol d'Oro Northern and Southern hemisphere competitions prominent attendance at Olive Oil Kansai International in Osaka from 11 - 13 October. This is the first Japanese trade fair dedicated exclusively to extra virgin olive oils. I am so proud of this honour that I sent Jason de Beer, our Global Sales & Marketing Manager and Huibré Hoff, our Export Sales Manager, to attend the Olive Oil Kansai exhibition with our award-winning olive oil.

Can you believe it? It is already 25 years since I have owned this beautiful farm! It is an important milestone for me and to celebrate I thought to do something different for the loyal wine drinkers who have supported us over the years, and for people who appreciate older vintages that are not easily available. I asked our tasting room to make up a special 6-bottle vertical collection of my first Bordeaux styled blend, Morgenster Lourens River Valley, spanning vintages 2000 – 2005 at a special R999 celebration price including delivery within South Africa. I hope you enjoy the wines as much as I do.

Ciao!
Giulio.

FROM HENRY IN THE WINE CELLAR

We have been bottling Vespri our maiden vintage of Vermentino, which is part of our Italian Collection. The latest additions to our Morgenster single varietal range, Morgenster Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 , Cabernet Franc 2015 and Merlot 2014 have been doing very well. Feedback is that the new look is great, and the quality of the wines is amazing. We agree, not only are they delicious, but they offer interesting insights into the dynamics of blending by showcasing each grape's unique contribution before it goes into our prized blends.

OLIVE CELLAR NEWS

After being awarded a gold medal in the intense category at the SA Olive Awards at the end of August, Morgenster extra virgin olive oil, 2017 harvest, was also recognised as one of South Africa's top 10 olive oils by the Absa Top 10 competition announced on 27 September. Here is Olive Production Manager Nico Loubser with Morgenster's Absa trophy. Two of the Estate's single cultivar olive oils also received silver medals in the SA Olive awards, Morgenster Monte Marcello in the delicate category, and Morgenster Don Carlo in the intense category.
